Biomedical Technology or Engineering is a broad term that combines engineering and technology to solve biological or medical problems involving humans, especially the design and use of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat various diseases.
DEGREE AWARDING UNIVERSITIES FOR BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY
DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Two (2) A level passes in Chemistry and anyone of Physics, Biology/Zoology/Botany and Mathematics.
SSCE (O’LEVEL) RESULTS REQUIREMENT
Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
JAMB UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION
Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS TO NOTE FOR BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING ADMISSION
ILORIN – Same as Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering. Relevant Programmes include Biomedical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology, Foundry Engineering Technology, Glass/Ceramics Technology, Water and Environmental Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, Polymer Technology, Welding and Fabrication Technology.
(i) BENIN requires: three (3) A level passes to include Biology/Zoology, Chemistry and Physics plus the UTME requirements.
(ii) CALABAR does not admit through Direct Entry.
(iii) FUTO requires at least A level passes not below C in Physics and any two (2) of Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. It also accepts ND/HND upper credit in Biomedical Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Candidates must in addition meet UTME requirements. It does not accept first degree or NCE.
(iv) IBADAN requires: two (2) A level passes from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botany plus the UTME requirements.
(v) LAUTECH accepts: A level passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics ND upper credit in related programme plus the UTME requirements may be considered
(i) CALABAR same as in Medicine and Surgery.
(ii) IBADAN same as in Medicine and Surgery.
