JAMB Giving Admission for 2020: Is it True?

JAMB logo
I started this post after I’d got a dozen questions because the news has it that JAMB is now giving admissions to admission seekers.

Have you heard the same? Obviously, that’s why you’re on this page.

This post will answer your questions and related ones if you can just read to the last words.

JAMB Hasn’t Released Admission Lists for 2020

As simple as it is, JAMB has not started offering admission to any candidates at the time of this post. However, a few institutions that are private and certain state universities such as Kwara State University (KWASU) were already in the news that they’d already started offering admission through JAMB.

Whereas, a few weeks after each institution closes its post UTME or screening forms, others will be relating admission lists to the JAMb portal as well.

The news that most people read was actually not referring to the 2020 admission. It’s was referring to 2019.

The confusion, of course, was due to the fact that candidates are already aware that JAMB has offered admissions for 2019. So, hearing the news of admission offers by now could easily be mistaken for 2020. After all, we’re in 2020.

JAMB has Suspended All Admission Activities Until Further Notice

It shouldn’t be news again that JAMB has suspended all admission activities for the year 2020 until the lockdown is over nationwide. All branches closed, CBT centers off work, cafes not working and all other logistics put on hold.

Admission activities had resumed by now. Hence, we should be on the lookout for admission lists as soon as each school closes the admission forms or finishing conducting post UTME or screening.
And if I must remind you, JAMB has warned that it’s not offering admissions to candidates. Instead, each institution is responsible for offering admissions while JAMB ensures modalities are duly followed.

Meanwhile, those institutions are shut down too.

JAMB Truly Announced That Admission Lists Were Out

Even though it’s already 2020, JAMB is aware that very many 2019 candidates had not checked their status. This was because the board had confirmed that a few candidates had checked their CAPS admission status.

The board, therefore, was curious before the 2020 admission will commence fully, to inform those who had not checked to do so, if they’re having outstanding admission offers.

In case you don’t know, some schools are still offering admissions for 2019 to date.

As a means to help further, JAMB has launched an SMS shortcode for candidates to know their status directly through their phones. They don’t need to login into their JAMB profiles again before knowing their status.

According to JAMB, to check your admission status on phone through SMS:

  1. Send STATUS 2019 to 55019
  2. A confirmation message will enter your phone after being charged N50.
  3. This message should state if you’re offered admission for the year or not.
  4. And in case of any issues or errors, you’re to contact JAMB through https://support.jamb.gov.ng

In the meantime, all admission seekers for the 2020 session should relax and wait until JAMB officially announces admission lists for 2020. In the meantime, activities such as change of institutions and courses, the printing of results, post UTME or screening registrations, and more continue as usual.

Any admission lists news should be addressing last admission seekers except for a few schools earlier noted. 2020 candidates shouldn’t expect any admission offers until all post UTMEs and screenings are done for the year 2020.
